Overview

The Technical Editor/Writer edits, writes, and/or rewrites technical articles, publications, presentations, and other materials to communicate clearly and effectively research findings, technical developments, and other news and information to a wide range of external audiences. Interprets and administers documentation/ communication policies and procedures. Advises writers and researchers in matters of style, syntax, and usage to improve the general quality and effectiveness of communications. Exercises quality control over documents intended for external distribution. May participate in copy clearance process.

Qualifications

Required skills include:

  • Prepare, review, edit and maintain program technical documents, including software and system engineering documents, CONOPS, test reports, user documentation, implementation documentation, etc.
  • Create, review, edit and maintain technical drawings for program documentation.
  • Experience in the following is required: MS Word, PowerPoint or similar.
  • Experience in a drawing tool, e.g., Visio.
  • Coordinate / interview team members to solicit program information.
  • Support preparation, review, edit and maintenance program training materials.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)

Desired skills include:

  • Experience or familiarity with Agile development methodology.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • No demonstrated experience required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline is required.

Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Typically employees sit comfortably to do their work, interspersed by brief periods of standing, walking, bending, carrying papers and books, and extensive periods requiring the use of computer terminals to accomplish work objectives.
